Stuffed HoneySweet® Onions

4 Large HoneySweet® Onion (4” Onion)

½ lb. ground beef

½ lb. ground italian sausage

½ cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs

¼ bunch plain parsley, chopped

¼ bunch basil leaves, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon oregano

½ cup mascarpone cheese

4 garlic cloves, minced

¼ cup cooked onion hearts, minced

Garnish with chopped parsley and/or basil, and shredded parmesan cheese

For the sauce: 2 cups marinara sauce


  1. Trim ends of onions and then peel.
  2. Make a cut down on one side, cutting into the center from top to bottom of the onion.
  3. Cook onions in boiling water for 12-15 minutes.
  4. Remove from water and allow to cool, then separate the layers of onion.
  5. In a large bowl combine meat, breadcrumb, herbs, cheese, spices, minced garlic and onion.
  6. Fill 1-2 tbsp. of meat mixture in each peeled layer of onion and wrap.
  7. Poor in 2 cups of marinara sauce into large saucepan.
  8. Arrange stuffed onions in pan with cut side down.
  9. Bring to a boil.
  10. Reduce heat low, cover pan and simmer for about one hour.
  11. Garnish with chopped parsley and/or basil, and shredded parmesan cheese.
